The maker

Michał Gryczka trained at the Danish design school Lyngby Uddannelsescenter. His work lives where three things meet: art, the way people use an object, and the natural world.

BALTICCA began in a workshop. Michał took an apprenticeship at a renowned carpentry in Gdańsk — a city on Poland’s northern coast with a long history of freedom. As the story goes, the workshop’s founder was the very craftsman who built the fabled wagon of Drzymała (PL: Wóz Drzymały).

Before that, he spent years advising companies at home and abroad on digital experience. But he wanted to make something lasting — something you could hold. It started with a single lamp for his own apartment in Gdańsk, and more than fourteen months of drawing and building before the first collection was ready to meet the world.
